About Kinesiology Taping

UFC Fighter Brad Pickett

Kinesio Taping is a revolutionary method for the treatment of a wide variety of common athletic injuries and physical conditions and can even be utilized for enhancing physical endurance. Kinesio taping has been used, with excellent results, in the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome, shoulder conditions, low back strains, hamstring or groin injuries, rotator cuff injuries, whiplash, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, knee conditions, shin splints and ankle sprains.

Unlike traditional athletic tape which attempts to limit range of motion and interferes with many activities, Kinesio tape is an elastic therapeutic tape. The elasticity prevents overstretching of muscles and provides muscle support while still maintaining full range of motion, allowing an athlete to continue to train or an employee to continue to work
Kinesio tape can be used to relax overused muscles, facilitate underused muscles during rehabilitation or to stabilize joints. The wave pattern of the adhesive and the elasticity of Kinesio tape produce a lifting effect on the skin which reduces swelling and inflammation by increasing blood circulation. This lifting effect can also be utilized to reduce pressure on pain receptors resulting in significant pain relief.

By lifting the skin away from the muscle, Kinesio Taping promotes increased blood flow during physical activities. Faster blood flow means more oxygen and more lymphatic drainage, which helps remove Lactic Acid. This combination of elevated oxygen and more efficient Lactic Acid removal gives the athlete a stronger and longer event life and faster post event recovery.

I have been using Kinesiology taping procedures for several years, successfully helping countless patients, including children, with pain, swelling, abnormal body mechanics, etc. I have used most of the Kinesiolgy tapes that are on the market, and have personally found Rocktape to be the best in my opinion. I have found the tape to be of the highest quality. When applied properly, the tape should stay on the patient for several days, regardless of activity, bathing, swimming, sweating, etc., and the adhesive has been well tolerated by my patients and athletes.
